Snow is on the way!!! Are you ready?
Letter from the President
Greetings Fellow Snowmobilers!! Are you ready to kick off another great year of snowmobiling in the NORTHWOODS? The long range forecast indicates we will have another great year of riding. Do you remember last winter – especially February with nearly 70 inches of snowfall in a single month? Hopefully we can spread that snowfall out a bit this season – but 89 days of open trails was awesome last year and we should be able to do at least as well this winter!!
As I enter the end of my second year as president of the Northwoods Riders Snowmobile Club I’d like to thank the entire club membership for your support, but I especially want to thank the volunteers that have helped to make my job so much easier. We have a great crew of people that have volunteered their time and talents and we are always looking for more people to join in helping – it is really fun when we have such a great group!
The Pontoon Palooza was held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 and was a great success again this year. Mother Nature increased our anxiety levels again this year giving us a dreary, wet day to start the run. But, as happened last year, the clouds parted in the middle of the afternoon to reveal glorious sunshine and we had an outstanding turnout for the party and drawings at Sattler’s Landing Bar. We sold 508 stamp sheets this year and the $100 raffle tickets sold out very early. A big thanks to our member taverns for selling raffle tickets and stamping all those run sheets! (Boomba, Dan and Mel’s, Twin Bay, Bootleggers, Fish Trapp, Holly’s, Landing Bar, Nokomis Pub, Oaks Pub, Prairie Rapids Tavern, Billy Bob’s, Thirsty Giraffe, Tilted Loon) Thanks too to Bryan and Older Budwiser for rocking the party tent! Finally, and not least importantly, thank you to those club members who volunteered their time to plan and run the event! Next year’s Pontoon Run will be held July 18, 2020 – MARK YOUR CALENDAR! We will be adding a $100 prize for the best Pontoon Theme next year – stay tuned for details.
Our first meeting will be held at 7:00pm on Monday, September 23, 2019 at The Thirsty Giraffe. We have three positions open on the Board of Directors, as well as the jobs of President and Secretary. We will be taking nominations for these positions at the September meeting. Elections will follow at the October meeting, which will be held October 28, 2019 at The Tilted Loon Saloon. Think about whom you would like to see in leadership positions in our club (maybe it’s you!) and come vote your preference!
There have been a few significant changes over the “off-season.” I will share some of them here…
- The Northwoods Riders Snowmobile Club is launching a website! Over the summer, the Board of Directors voted, for a number of reasons, to move forward and create a website. As society moves more and more into an “online focus” we decided our Facebook presence was just not enough. The website will allow us to communicate with members and visitors much more effectively. It will be a central (continued on back)
information and reference point for anyone wanting to know about events, conditions, membership, meetings and the like. It will also allow us to process annual dues and new memberships electronically with a credit card! (more on this later in the letter) Check us out at www.northwoodsriders.org! We welcome suggestions as we refine and improve the new site.
- The Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs – AWSC, made some changes over the summer that will impact our club and its members. First, effective July 2019, they imposed a dues increase taking it up to $12/year. This amount is forwarded, on your behalf, by our club to the AWSC and comes out of the dues you pay to The Northwoods Riders. Next, they changed the anniversary month for AWSC membership to renew – it is now in July each year. This will make it more important for you to pay your Riders club dues on time so that you can get your discounted trail passes before the snow flies!
- The Northwoods Riders Snowmobile Club membership voted at the March meeting to raise the price of annual dues by $5 (now $25-Individual and $30-Family). This was done in relation to the increase in dues imposed by AWSC (see #2 above) and to cover other increases in club overhead.
Along with this letter we have included a membership renewal card. Please fill it out, write your check, and mail it back to the address at the top of the card as soon as possible! Or, if you prefer to pay with credit card, log onto www.northwoodsriders.org and click on the “Join Now” tab on the main page. This will direct you through the membership renewal process allowing you to check out securely using a credit or debit card. Dues for the Northwoods Riders are due in September of each year (that’s right now). As in years past, we will be drawing 10 member names from those already renewed at the September meeting. These members will enjoy FREE MEMBERSHIP for the year – having the club portion of their dues refunded to them! Please renew while it is fresh in your mind!
We look forward to another great year for the Northwoods Riders Snowmobile Club, both on the snow and off. I welcome your participation, ideas, suggestions and support. We’d love to see you at the meetings – which begin promptly at 7:00pm each winter season month (6:00pm for Board Members).
