Trail Clean-up Day:

Trail Clean-up Day is Saturday, October 23, 2021.  We will be assisting the Northwoods Passage with brushing, clearing and trail clean-up on this day.  We will meet at the Northwoods Riders Club Garage (2642 Co Rd L, Tomahawk, WI 54487) at 9:00am.  There will be a quick instructional session, and then groups will form to head out and work sections of trail.  Please bring your ATV/UTV, chainsaws, tree trimmers, mauls, loppers, garbage bags, etc.  If you bring your ATV on a trailer, don't unload right away...some groups may travel and unload at other locations away from the club garage.  Following the day’s work, there will be a gathering at Prairie Rapids Pavilion - beginning at 2:00pm.  Chili and soup will be provided.

Memberships:

Membership renewal letters went out in mid-August.  Thanks go out to Julia McDonald, Mary Beth Waters, Chetek Wenker, and Rose Wojcik for their assistance!

Please be aware your club dues must be paid and processed before you can order your trail passes.  After we receive your renewal, whether mailed or online, it is processed and sent into AWSC.  Once AWSC processes the renewals, which can take up to 2 weeks, your membership is updated to active and you are able to order your discounted trail passes.  So, if you haven’t mailed in your renewal or completed it online, it’s time to get it done so you are ready to ride!

We currently have 281 members in our club.  New members at the September meeting included:  John and Kirsten Litzau (new owners of Twin Bay), John Felzkowski (aka Fries), and Steve Holbrook.  Welcome!

Trail Closures:

51C from the Bearskin to Birch Lake Resort looks to be closed due to a landowner dispute.  Alternate routes are being explored.  Tim Calhoun indicated South Shore Drive will be open as an alternate route to Birch Lake Resort.  As club members, we need to outwardly be appreciative of landowners for granting the privilege to cross their lands.  If you have an opportunity to thank them, please do!  Always be respectful of private property and stay on the trails.

Donation to Northwoods Riders Passage:

Tim Calhoun informed our club the Northwoods Passage Riders have purchased a drag and it has been delivered.  The drag will be located at Woodpecker to service NWP trails in that area.  It was purchased to replace a 20+ year old drag.  The Passage is requesting a club donation toward the cost of the drag.  It will be discussed at the October meeting.

Club Officer Nominations:

Voting for club officers will take place at our October 25, 2021 meeting.  This meeting will be held at the Tilted Loon Saloon beginning at 7:00pm.  There are 5 positions being voted on this year; President, Secretary, and 3 Board of Director Positions which will be determined by the three highest numbers of votes.  Current nominations include:

President: Greg Johnson

Secretary:  Lisa Elliott

Board Positions: John Collom, Dale Elliott, and Dennis Wenker

If you would like to nominate someone for one of these positions, or would like to run yourself, please come to the October meeting as nominations will be opened one final time before we vote.  If you are unable to attend the meeting but wish to make a nomination – you can email us at info@northwoodsriders.org  Get your nomination in early so we can contact the candidate for their nomination acceptance and put their name on the ballot.

DNR Snowmobile Safety Class:

The DNR Snowmobile Safety Class will be held December 4, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Erv’s.  Enrollment will be limited to 50 students and DNR covid protocols will be followed.  John Collom made a motion to spend $500 on class expenses for 50 students.  It was approved at the meeting.  All registrations must be completed through the Wisconsin DNR website at GoWild.wi.gov. Registrations will be opened on October 26, 2021.

Pontoon Palooza:

The Northwoods Riders Pontoon Palooza held in July was a huge success!  There were 636 stamp sheets sold, up 297 from last year.  All 150 raffle tickets were sold.  At the meeting, Greg Johnson read a thank you letter from Mark McDonald (see letter below) which acknowledged all the volunteers who pitched in to make this event possible.  We thank all the volunteers and businesses for their time and generosity!  If you have any feedback or new ideas, please email us at info@northwoodsriders.org.  We are always looking for ways to make this event even better!
